While the 1st-2nd graders have been busy finishing their peacocks, the kinder and fifth have been starting new projects. The fifth graders went to the symphony and learned about the ghostly Flying Dutchman. We are making these silhouettes with chalk pastels. I will post the results tomorrow!
Kindergarten Spring Hatch-Lings!!
Kinder went on a Spring walk today and picked up sticks to make this nest. We used cotton balls shaken in a bag with powdered tempera for the chicks. They had so much fun and they ALL did a wonderful job!
Fifth Grade has just finished their Archimbaldo Self Expression Silhouettes. I have posted this project before here http://www.elementaryartfun.blogspot.com/search/label/Archimbaldo
This year we added the spray paint element. The kids could use a stencil or make one. I love the ones they designed themselves!
Cool post. I used to do a chalk or oil pastel stencil like your clouds, but haven't in years, and seeing yours makes me wonder why I put it on the shelf! They look great so far. Maybe I can incorporate it into something I already have planned.
ReplyDeleteYour "Arcimboldo" profiles remind me of something else I did years and years ago, that I called "Bionic Brains". I did them with my 7th graders out of heavy cardboard that we cut with a jigsaw, so they had two sides to decorate in different ways (realistic/imaginative; good side, bad side; etc). I like the stencil element on yours. Is it real spray paint? Do you have to take them outside to spray or what? How do you handle it?
I was thinking about this comment yesterday wondering what it would look like with oil pastels and had to try it! LOVE it!! I LOVE the bionic brains, but a jig saw??!!! This is why you blow my mind! I set up shop outside with the spray paint and the kids bring me their stencils and I spray it. I am sure if I had a smaller group, and all the stencils were taped down good, they could handle it themselves, its pretty quick and easy. Since they were sharing their stencils though, I didn't bother taping them, I just ended up with spray paint all over my hands!
DeleteI'm getting ready to start my Kinder rotation in a few weeks, so I'm lovin' those little nests!!!
ReplyDeletethe nests were really cute! I had 100% success, everyone was able to make the nest and glue the pieces together. They are learning about the seasons right now in class, so it was perfect. We have a real bird nest outside our building too which added to the fun!
