Yesterday I did a simple one day project with 1st and Second grade.
We talked about different birds and their different habitats.
We started with a huge pile of scrap paper. I use the Tru Ray Construction paper.
The only instructions I gave them were to start with a circle for the head, then an oval for the body, an oval for the wing, a long or short triangle for the beak, and then a long strip of paper for the tail feathers. I showed them how to add more feathers with more strips of different colored paper. They had to come up with something on their own for the legs. And of course you need some really awesome googly eyes!!
Here are the results
FIRST GRADE
They all looked so different and the kids really enjoyed creating their own special bird! We talked about where it lived at the end of class and they were so excited making their birds talk to each other. I love when a project gets them so excited and inspires imaginative play!
Second Grade
Those turned out really nice! Neat idea!

Lovely!!! Wonderful color and texture, and the google eyes are a great finishing touch :)
ReplyDeleteThese are fabulous! I think you could have such fun displaying them - a big sky with tree tops and branches, and the bits in the trees and sky everywhere.
