Peacocks, and Aboriginal Art, and Cool Names!

Ever since I shot this wedding, http://www.shelbyjunephotography.com/2010/06/wedding-photography.html, I have been fascinated with peacocks! They are now my favorite bird! They really are magnificent! I decided to do a week of peacock paintings with kinder through fifth grade.

The kinder kids did a draw-a-long where we used a black marker to draw it, then they painted with tempera cakes and watercolors, following a color sequence. If you would like the step by step lesson plan with photos you can e-mail me and I will send it to you Natty241@hotmail.com

5th grade

Fifth grade made their paintings on large paper. They started with a sketch and we examined the parts of the eye. They painted the body with different values of blue

They started with white for the feathers and after it dried, painted the colors on top. This alowed for the colors to be brighter as they tend to soak into the black paper and look dull.

They were allowed to create their own color schemes

Then added color on the white including silver, copper, and gold!

One of my VERY talented fifth graders made this for our district auction to raise money for the arts. He won a medal and an award for raising the most money on a single painting! This was painted with spray paint and oil pastels.

This project was inspired by this most interesting instrument, the digeridoo!!

It was made by the Aboriginal people and has the most fabulous texture and designs to inspire my kids to create!!
