I LOVE this project. Fourth and Fifth grade were shown artwork by Jim Dine. They had to create a composition with oil pastels of a heart/s! Everyone’s art had to be original and express the feelings of their heart.
thank you for the sweet comments. It makes me excited when the kids get creative, and this was the best lesson for that. The subject was simple and non-threatening, and the kids just took off with their ideas! The kids were so in to their art that the room was SILENT and many of them filled the page completely and then wanted to make another one! Easy clean up too!
They look terrific. I may break out the oil pastels for this next week. But cleanup was easy? HUh? It always seems like someone drops and steps on an oil pastel in my room, and they're harder to clean off hands than anything else it seems. Not that I'm afraid of mess...
yes I know what you mean, Phy! We do floor checks every 15 minutes to eliminate the squished pastel on the floor nightmare! But it seems to come off hands with soap pretty well.
Natalie, these are wonderful, I love jim Dine too. The kids really respond to his subject matter. I just started a blog and it has a jim dine project on it as well. If you want to check it out the url is http://doartimagineexplorecreate.blogspot.com/. I would like to link your blog on mine if that is ok
Gorgeous! :)
